Thalaivar 171: Rajinikanth’s first look in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial has connection with watches; fans speculate Rolex crossover

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has treated fans to the first look of his most anticipated project with Rajinikanth. Tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, the film will mark the first collaboration of Lokesh and Rajinikanth. The first look displays Rajinikanth sporting a stylish look and it is all things blingy!

The glittery first look of Thalaivar 171 displays a bearded Rajinikanth sporting ‘handcuffs’ made of watches. Wearing a rugged shirt with a pair of sunglasses on, the actor has been kept in a monotone However, what made the poster remarkable were the shimmery watches and his coloured sunglasses. Sharing the first look, the director also assured the fans that the title of the film will be released on April 22. “#Thalaivar171TitleReveal on April 22,” he wrote on X.

Given the fact that the handcuffs are made of watches in the first look poster of Thalaivar 171, fans have begun speculating a possible Rolex crossover in the film. While the makers are yet to announce any such information, the poster led fans to believe that Rajinikanth’s new film could feature Rolex. A fan wondered, “ROLEX APPAN AH IRKUMOOO (Will it feature Rolex?).” Another speculated, “Rolex Dady is coming.. #Thalaivar171.” Meanwhile, a third asked, “Is Loki saying #Thalaivar171 is ROLEX ka BAAP.”

As fans continue to speculate, it needs to be noted that Lokesh had previously clarified that Thalaivar 171 is not a part of his larger cinematic universe (LCU). The director, during the promotion of Fight Club last year, even mentioned that the film is an action thriller and will go on floors in April. Lokesh further shared that the eagerly awaited film will mark Rajini’s return to intense action scenes.

Meanwhile, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s director is set to be produced by Sun Pictures, featuring music by Anirudh. Besides Rajinikanth, Sivakarthikeyan is rumoured to be a part of the film. It is expected that the cast and crew of the film will be revealed on the title announcement day.

Besides Thalaivar 171, Rajinikanth will also be a part of Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film also features Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati in the key roles.
